With each passing day the “Fiscal Cliff” drama intensifies as both Democrats and Republicans try and spin their political positions. Democrats refuse to make serious spending cuts and modify entitlement programs as needed and Republicans scoff at increasing revenues by eliminating tax expenditures for the wealthy few and GOP members also grandstand anytime someone suggests streamlining our defense which is the biggest cost driver of the Federal Budget. And in the end whether the deal is done before Christmas or after the New Year; the public can be assured the final resolution will leave us wondering why we re-elected these pompous jackasses.

One day this nightmare of intrusive government bureaucrats, deceiving political sewer-rats, and K-Street fat-cats will conclude when a new street-sweeper comes to the party and (political revolution) tosses out the trash. Until then, we are going to have to build coalitions that demonstrate peacefully against every media executive and their correspondents along with every politician and their pundits responsible for our nation’s financial instability and the Washington corruption that continues to flourish. Even more importantly, the American public deserves a news media that ask the tough questions and challenges the evasive political spin.

While most journalists swear they are neutral, the evidence overwhelmingly proves otherwise. During Watergate the Washington Post was the standard for journalism and I dreamt of working for this reputable newspaper as an investigative journalist, but their unwillingness to pursue the scandals, corrupt practices, ineptitude, lack of transparency, and failure of accountability of the Obama Administration has forever tarnished their integrity. And even though The New York Times has always been slanted slightly to the left; it too was once a proud newspaper where the truth was more important than a political agenda.

Moreover, America needs leaders that lead. Instead of both sides working on pragmatic solutions; Democrats and Republicans are trapped in party dogma. And these dogmatic idealists are financially burdening future generations with unprincipled debt that will diminish their living standards and quality of life through higher taxes, higher interest rates, higher costs of living (food, clothing, utilities, and transportation), unaffordable healthcare, and lower wages. Regrettably our nation has some very serious financial and economic challenges ahead of us; nonetheless the current proposals by both political parties are short-term fixes with minuscule relief for long-term problems that require serious changes in tax policy, spending, government, immigration, and entitlements.

So here we are again with both parties trying to blame the other side for the lack of progress. Eventually, Democrats and Republicans will agree on a deal and congratulate one another for compromising on a resolution. Afterwards when we start analyzing the details of their agreement, we will find another piece of watered-down legislation that lacks the merit of its political praise. And predictably both Democrats and Republicans will make excuses and promise future changes as they always do while our nation suffers for their lethargy.

If we don’t wakeup and unite to hold Democrats and Republicans accountable in the next few election cycles; our journey back to fiscal sanity is going to be a long painstaking ride. For those who say it will never change I say to you “You are right-for if we no longer care about the direction of our nation, our failures in education, standing up for what we believe in, and continue to ignore what is going on in the world; then our fate is sealed by our inaction.” However, I remain optimistic because I still believe America remains the Beacon of Hope for the voiceless majority of the United States and the World.
