This year’s annual Ms. Riverside Nursing Home pageant included many awards, gifts, crowning, flowers, and most important were the beautiful smiles each person had to display for many onlookers this year. “This was one of the best pageants we’ve had,” according to Faith Mooney, the activities director of Riverside Nursing Home. The winner of this years’ pageant was Betty Angel. “She will go to the State Championship with great success,” Mooney said.

The pageant was emceed by Karen Harvile with the invocation given by Mr. Brian O’Rourke. Each person was escorted by Sergeant Rodney Ozley or Deputy James Roscoe of Upson County Sheriff’s Department, or Hampton Hicks, who is a grandson of one of the residents.

The contestants this year were Ruby Young, Marion Mathis, Gladys Hicks, and Betty Angel. Each participant was judged by Upson County Sheriff Sergeant Marie McDaniel, Georgia State Patrol Post Commander Maurice Raines, and Thurston Fire Chief Richard Hickmon. Each contestant had a series of questions to answer to determine the most eligible choice. All ladies did well with all of their answers. The choice was very difficult as each contestant was awarded some type of award.

Mrs. Donna Coates is the Social Director of Riverside Nursing Home, and had the honors of awarding the Personality Awards as they were chosen. Mr. Brian O’Rourke, Administrator of Riverside Nursing Home presented the bouquet of the Queen’s flowers to the Queen. Presentation of the Gifts was done by Faith Money with the First Baptist Ladies, and W.M. U. providing the refreshments.

Sitting in the Honor’s Court this year was 2011 Queen- Gussie Clay who went on to State Championship that year and won second place, 2010 Queen Ruth Hammond, 2008 Queen Sallie Alexander, and the 2004 Queen Grace Singletary, who is currently 108 years old at present.

The Riverside Nursing Home and Staff would like to give extra thanks to the Rotary Club of Thomaston-Upson for their sponsorship and friendship. They would like to thank the Community for the support of our local residents and ask the community to continue with their support. They look forward to another great year, and wish that each person keep them in their prayers!
