When Lauren Hay’s boyfriend, Nathan Guy, asked her if she wanted to ride through The Rock Ranch’s Christmas Lights display on Christmas Eve, she had no idea that when she said yes to that, that she would also be saying “Yes” to a much more meaningful question during the ride.
After going through the majority of the Christmas Lights display, Nathan and Lauren were coming up the back road at The Rock Ranch when all of a sudden they saw her name in lights on a sign at the side of the road. She was still wondering why that had happened when suddenly Nathan pulled over to the side and flashed his lights. Suddenly ahead of them, a new sign lit up: “Will U Marry Me?”
Still stunned by what she saw, Laurie watched as Nathan got out of the car, came around to her side, opened her door and had her get out, then got down on one knee and proposed to her. Her answer? “Yes!”
Later, Lauren said she had no idea what was about to happen.
“Not at all,” she said. “I was definitely surprised. All the way.”
Nathan, 27, graduated from Upson-Lee High School and did a six-year hitch in the U. S. Army. He is now going to school in Warner Robins, studying aviation maintenance, with plans to graduate next year. Lauren, 21, graduated from Pike County High School, but now lives in Thomaston. They plan to make their home in Thomaston.
Adam Pugh of The Rock Ranch said Nathan came to them with the idea for the unique proposal, and Adam said they were all for it. After the proposal, the two families gathered in Truett’s Barn for a small reception celebrating the event.
The joyous occasion also came on an anniversary of sorts. Nathan, 27, said he and Lauren, 21, met in town through some friends, and have been together since last Christmas. Hopefully this Christmas will be one they remember fondly for years to come.
