The Thomaston-Upson County School System finished the 2012-2013 fiscal year close to being even in what they took in and what they spent. At their August meeting, Finance Director Kathy Matthews advised the Board of Education that the system finished the fiscal year having only spent $5,700 over their budget.
“Revenues for the year were $30.8 million, which were $327,000 more than budgeted,” said Matthews. “Expenses were $31 million, which were $5,700 more than budgeted. For the year, Expenses exceeded Revenue by $245,000.”
With the budget being adjusted to allow for the additional revenue, that left expenditures over by just $5,700.
“Basically we were right on budget,” Matthews stated. “We had a budget of $31,065,000. Our expenses were $31,070,700, so we were over budget $5,700.”
Board Chair Keith Rohling noted that under SPLOST, the system shows $432,000 in the balance for the Fine Arts Center and asked if the school system has made the final payment on the new facility.
Matthews stated they have not made the final payment and that the last payment they made was in June.
“They have not done any work during the summer because they had to pull off our project and complete another project in another district,” said Matthews. “From what I understand, they are back tying up loose ends and working on the punch list. I expect that last payment to be made in September or October at the latest. Mr. Majors is working very closely with them and I won’t release payment until he give the go ahead.”
