Remembering 9/11/2001

On Wednesday, September 11, 2013, the residents of Upson County remembered the heroes and victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, as well as those who fought the terrorists in the Flight 93 crash in Pennsylvania. On the 12th anniversary of the attacks, flags at government buildings and businesses flew at half staff. In the upper photo, First Baptist Church of Thomaston set out a row of American flags flying at half staff. In the lower photo, as they have done each year, the firefighters of the Thomaston Fire Department held a brief ceremony to remember their fallen brethen. In front of the flagpole erected in front of the stati0n in memory of those who lost their lives sits a set of firefighter gear and a vase of roses. On the memorial plaque, it is written: “In honor and remembrance of the heroes and victims of September 11, 2001, and to celebrate the enduring spirit of all


Americans.”
